Track Work Orders
The Work Orders screen is your production board. It lists every batch you're making, shows what stage each one has reached, and lets you open any single job to see how the work and the materials are progressing.
Availability depends on your plan and your role.
Open the list
From the left sidebar, open Production and choose Work Orders. The list shows every work order, newest first, with the essentials at a glance:
- The work order number and the product being made.
- The quantity for the batch.
- The status — Draft, Pending, In Progress, Completed or Cancelled.
- The schedule — the start and finish (or due) dates.
Filter to what you need
You rarely want to see everything at once. Use the filters at the top of the list to narrow it down — most usefully by status:
- In Progress — the jobs live on the floor right now. This is the everyday working view.
- Pending — jobs that came from planning and are waiting for a route to be chosen before they can start.
- Draft — plans you've written but not committed to.
- Completed — finished batches, for looking back.
- Cancelled — jobs that were called off.
You can also narrow by product or by date so you're only looking at the batches that matter to you at that moment.
Open a single work order
Click any row to open that job's full detail. This is where the two things that matter come together: how far the work has got, and whether the materials are covered.
Each stage's progress
The detail lays out the job's route as a series of stages — cut, assemble, polish, inspect, pack — and shows how far each one has got. At a glance you can see:
- Which stage is done, which is being worked on now, and which are still to come.
- How much of the batch has passed through each stage.
- Any stage that's been sent for rework or was skipped.
It reads like a progress bar for the whole batch, so you always know where the job stands without walking the floor.
How well the materials are covered
The detail also shows the input-readiness for the job — the same coverage view you saw when you raised it:
200 needed = 150 ready from stock + 50 buying → 0 short
This tells you whether the parts the batch still needs are on hand or on the way. If something has slipped to short since the job started — because another order consumed the same stock — you'll see it here and can act before the floor is held up.
Reading the status at a glance
| Status | What it's telling you |
|---|---|
| Draft | A plan, not yet committed. Materials aren't set aside. |
| Pending | Came from planning; needs a route chosen before it can begin. |
| In Progress | Live on the floor; materials reserved; stages being worked. |
| Completed | All stages done and finished goods received into stock. |
| Cancelled | Called off; any reserved materials released back to stock. |
Common questions
A job is stuck at Pending — why won't it start? It came from Demand Planning without a route. Open it and pick a route, and it can move to In Progress. See Raise a Work Order.
The coverage shows short but the job is already running. Another document has taken some of the stock this batch was counting on. Order or transfer the short material so the floor isn't left waiting at that stage.
