Package Settings

Added October 2026

Packages is where you choose how packing records are numbered and where you enter the GS1 number your shipping labels are built from. Open it from Settings → Item Central → Packages; the entry appears only when Packages and labels is switched on for the business unit. The settings apply to one business unit at a time.

note

Packages appears only for administrators, and only when Packages and labels is switched on for the business unit. If you open the page from a link while it is off, it says "Packaging is turned off for this business unit" — ask Bizconnekt support to turn it on.

You do not have to open this page to start. Until you change a row, Bizconnekt numbers everything with the standard numbering shown on the page.

Numbering

The page lists four rows. Each new record gets the row's prefix and the next number.

RowWhat it numbersStandard numbering (first number)
Packing listsEach new packing listPL-0001
PackagesEach box, carton or palletPKG-000001
Package typesEach new package typePKT-001
Label layoutsEach new label layoutLBL-001

Every row has two boxes:

  • Prefix — up to 10 characters.
  • Starting number — digits only, up to 10. Leading zeros set the width, so 0001 gives 0001, 0002 and so on.

Under the boxes, First number shows what the first record will look like, for example PL-0001. A small label on the right says Standard numbering until you save your own, and Set for this business unit afterwards.

tip

Set the numbering before you create your first record, so every record starts on the numbers you want.

SSCC shipping labels (GS1)

An SSCC is the 18-digit shipping code that some customers ask for on cartons and pallets. Bizconnekt builds it from your GS1 company prefix. You only need this section if your customers ask for SSCC barcodes — leave it blank if you do not use GS1.

FieldWhat to enter
GS1 company prefixThe company prefix from your GS1 membership — 6 to 12 digits, digits only.
Extension digitOne digit, 0 to 9. It is usually 0.

Good to know:

  • The serial part of each SSCC starts at 1 and goes up by one for every package that gets an SSCC. Serial numbers are given automatically and are never reused.
  • If two business units share one GS1 prefix, give each a different extension digit so their codes never collide.
  • Once the prefix and digit are valid, the page shows The first SSCC will be … so you can check it against your GS1 records.
  • If a label layout is set to print an SSCC and no prefix is saved, the layout form shows a reminder to set it here, and labels that carry an SSCC cannot be printed until you do.

Save your changes

A Save button appears as soon as you change something. It is disabled while any box shows a red message — for example a missing prefix, a starting number with letters in it, or a GS1 prefix that is not 6 to 12 digits. A confirmation, Package settings saved, appears when it has gone through. Only the rows you changed are saved; rows you did not change stay as they were: the standard numbering if you never changed them, or whatever you saved earlier.
