Add a Bank Account & Import a Statement
Overview
Before you can reconcile, Bizconnekt needs two things: the bank account you're working with, and the statement for the period you want to check. This page covers both — setting up an account once, and bringing in a statement each time you want to reconcile a month.
Prerequisites
Before you start:
- Your role has permission to work in Banking
- You have your bank account details (name and account number) to hand
- You've downloaded or exported the statement file from your bank for the period you want to reconcile
Part 1 — Add a bank account
You only do this once per account. After that, the account stays in Bizconnekt and every future statement goes against it.
Step 1: Open Banking
- Go to Finance from the sidebar
- Click Banking
- Click Add Bank Account (the green add button)
Step 2: Enter the account details
| Field | What to enter |
|---|---|
| Account name | A name you'll recognise — for example "Current Account — HDFC" or "Main Operating Account" |
| Account number | Your bank account number, as it appears on your statement |
Give the account a clear name — it's what you'll pick from when you bring in a statement, and it's what shows on your reports.
Step 3: Save
Click Save. The account now appears in your Banking list, ready for its first statement.
Part 2 — Bring in a statement
Do this each time you want to reconcile a period — usually once a month.
Step 1: Choose the account
- In the Banking list, open the bank account you want to reconcile
- Click Import Statement
Step 2: Upload the statement file
- Download or export the statement from your bank's website for the period you want (for example, last month)
- Drag the file in, or click to browse and choose it
- Bizconnekt reads the file and lists every line — money in and money out
A few tips for a clean import:
- Use the file format your bank offers for accounting or export (a spreadsheet or a standard statement file works best)
- Import one period at a time — a full month is ideal
- Make sure the file is the statement itself, not a summary or a screenshot
Step 3: Check the summary
Once the file is read, Bizconnekt shows you a summary before anything is matched:
| What you'll see | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Statement period | The start and end dates the statement covers |
| Opening & closing balance | The balance the bank shows at the start and end of the period |
| Number of lines | How many transactions came in from the file |
| Suggested matches | How many lines Bizconnekt has already matched to your recorded payments and receipts |
Bizconnekt automatically suggests matches as it brings the statement in — so most of the work is often done before you even start. You confirm and finish the rest on the Reconcile & Manage page.
Field definitions
The details Bizconnekt keeps for each line it brings in — you'll see these while reconciling:
| Field | What it means |
|---|---|
| Date | The day the transaction went through the bank |
| Money in / Money out | Whether the line added to your balance (a receipt) or reduced it (a payment) |
| Amount | The value of the transaction |
| Description | The text your bank put against the line |
| Reference / transfer number | The reference or transfer number — Bizconnekt uses this to suggest a match |
| Other party | The name of who paid you or who you paid, when the bank includes it |
| Cheque number | Filled in for cheque transactions |
A worked example
You run a small trading business and want to reconcile September.
- On your bank's website you export September's statement — 43 transactions.
- In Bizconnekt you open your Current Account — HDFC and import the file.
- The summary shows: 43 lines, opening balance ₹2,10,000, closing balance ₹1,86,500, and 31 lines already matched.
- That leaves 12 lines to finish by hand — a few receipts you hadn't recorded yet, and two small bank charges.
- You head to Reconcile & Manage to close those off.
Twelve lines instead of forty-three — that's the point of bringing the statement in first.
Common issues & solutions
Issue 1: The file won't read, or lines look wrong
Solution:
- Make sure you exported the statement itself, not a summary page
- Try the accounting or spreadsheet export your bank offers, rather than a printed PDF
- Check the file is for the account you're importing against
Issue 2: A line appears twice
Solution:
- This usually means the same period was imported twice. Bizconnekt flags a line that looks like a duplicate so you can spot it — import one period at a time to avoid it.
Issue 3: Fewer matches suggested than you expected
Solution:
- Matches are suggested when a recorded payment or receipt lines up with a statement line. If you haven't recorded some payments yet, record them first in Payments Made or Payments Received, then reconcile.
Issue 4: The opening balance doesn't match last month's closing
Solution:
- This points to a gap in a previous period — a statement not fully reconciled, or a period skipped. Reconcile the earlier period first so the balances carry forward cleanly.
