Shifts and the Shift Roster

A shift is the working window your people are meant to keep, and the roster is the picture of who's on which one. Together they give attendance a yardstick — so every recorded day can be checked against what the day was supposed to be.

note

Availability depends on your plan and your role.

What a shift is

A shift is simply a named working window — a start time, an end time, and a name you'll recognise: "General 9 to 6", "Morning", "Night". You set each one up once.

The point of a shift is that it carries the day's expected hours. When a person is on a shift, Bizconnekt already knows what their day was meant to look like, so you don't have to type the expected hours every time you record attendance — and you have something to compare the real day against.

Assigning shifts to people

Put a person on a shift so their days line up with the right working window. From then on, when you record their attendance, the shift and its expected hours are ready for you. If someone moves to a different window — a rotation, a one-off cover — you can change the shift on the day itself while recording or editing it.

Reading the shift roster

The shift roster is the overview of who is on which shift. It's most useful when you run more than one working window, or rotate people between them:

  • See at a glance which people belong to each shift.
  • Spot anyone who hasn't been placed on a shift yet.
  • Plan cover when you can see the whole picture in one place.

Reconciliation — settling the differences

Reconciliation means comparing the attendance you recorded against what was expected, and sorting out the gaps.

Because each shift sets the expected hours, Bizconnekt can show you where a recorded day doesn't match:

  • a day someone forgot to mark,
  • a missing in or out time,
  • hours that come up short or over against the shift.

You work through those differences — correcting a day, filling a missing one, confirming the ones that are genuinely different — until the record is one you can trust. It's the step that turns a rough run of entries into a clean, reliable register.

note

The bigger the team and the more shifts you run, the more reconciliation earns its keep — it's how you catch the days that would otherwise slip through.
