Field Definitions

Tax Type

Identifies the GST component being reported:

IGST (Integrated GST):

  • Applies to interstate transactions
  • Single consolidated tax
  • Both output and input shown separately

CGST (Central GST):

  • Applies to intrastate transactions (Central portion)
  • Typically not shown separately in summary reports
  • Combined with SGST for intrastate liability

SGST (State GST):

  • Applies to intrastate transactions (State portion)
  • Typically not shown separately in summary reports
  • Combined with CGST for intrastate liability

In most Tax Summary reports, only IGST is shown as a separate line item, with a consolidated Net Total row combining all tax types.

Tax Percentage

The applicable GST rate for the transactions:

Common Rates:

  • 18% (most common for goods and services)
  • 28% (luxury goods, sin goods)
  • 12% (standard rated goods)
  • 5% (essential goods)
  • 0% (zero-rated or exempt)

Note: The report typically shows the predominant rate or displays "-" if multiple rates are aggregated.

Output Tax

Total GST collected on your sales (outward supplies) during the period.

What's Included:

  • GST on all sales invoices
  • Tax on services provided
  • Interstate (IGST) and intrastate (CGST+SGST) sales
  • Reverse charge tax if applicable

What's Excluded:

  • Credit notes issued (reduce output tax)
  • Exempt or nil-rated supplies
  • Cancelled invoices

Significance: This is your tax liability to the government before adjusting input credits.

Example from screenshot: Output Tax = ₹1,34,316.00

Input Tax Credit (ITC)

Total GST paid on your purchases (inward supplies) that you're eligible to claim as credit.

What's Included:

  • GST on purchase bills from registered suppliers
  • Tax on business expenses
  • Interstate (IGST) and intrastate (CGST+SGST) purchases
  • Import GST (IGST)

What's Excluded:

  • Purchases from unregistered suppliers
  • Ineligible expenses (personal use, blocked credits)
  • GST on purchases where payment not made within 180 days

Significance: This credit offsets your output tax liability, reducing the actual amount payable.

Example from screenshot: Input Tax Credit = ₹8,79,181.99

Net Liability

The actual amount payable to (or refundable from) the government.

Formula: Net Liability = Output Tax - Input Tax Credit

Understanding the Result:

Negative Value (shown with minus sign):

  • Input Tax Credit exceeds Output Tax
  • You have a refund or credit to carry forward
  • Example: -₹7,44,865.99 means ₹7,44,865.99 refundable/credit

Positive Value:

  • Output Tax exceeds Input Tax Credit
  • You need to pay this amount to government
  • Example: +₹50,000 means ₹50,000 payable

Zero:

  • Output tax and input credit are equal
  • No payment required, no refund due

Taxable Amount

Total value of all taxable supplies (sales) before adding GST.

Calculation:

  • Sum of basic amounts from all invoices
  • Excludes GST amount
  • Includes only taxable supplies (not exempt/nil rated)

Purpose:

  • Shows business turnover for tax purposes
  • Used to determine filing frequency requirements
  • Helps track business growth

Example from screenshot: Taxable Amount = ₹56,30,544.40

This means total taxable sales (before GST) were ₹56,30,544.40

Troubleshooting

Mismatch with Other Reports

Issue: Tax Summary doesn't match Inward/Outward Supply reports

Solutions:

  • Ensure same date range selected in all reports
  • Verify all transactions are approved
  • Check for cancelled or credit note adjusted entries
  • Rerun all reports after any corrections
  • Contact support if mismatch persists

Unexpected Credit Balance

Issue: Large input credit accumulated

Possible Reasons:

  • High-value purchases in the period
  • Capital expenditure with significant GST
  • Export sales (zero-rated with full ITC)
  • Business slowdown with ongoing purchase commitments

Actions:

  • Verify all ITC claims are legitimate
  • Consider refund application if persistent
  • Check ITC eligibility conditions
  • Plan to utilize credit in upcoming periods

Missing Transactions

Issue: Expected transactions not reflected

Solutions:
