TDS / TCS

Added October 2026

The TDS / TCS hub shows what you have withheld, what you have deposited, and what is still due — with the interest a late deposit adds. Every figure comes from your books. From one place you record the challans that deposit the tax, prepare the quarterly returns, keep the certificates, and match your credits against Form 26AS.

note

Availability depends on your plan and your role. You need Tax Compliance access (View) to read the hub, and Edit access to record, change, delete or release anything. If your business unit's region has no TDS / TCS module, the screen says Tax withholding deposits are not available for this business unit's region yet.

Open the hub

  1. Click Finance in the sidebar, then Tax Compliance.
  2. Click the TDS / TCS tile ("See what TDS / TCS you owe and what is overdue, and record the challans that pay it").

At the top right, a switch chooses TDS (tax you deducted from payments you made) or TCS (tax you collected on sales). Every tab except Form 26AS follows it.

Below are five tabs: Liability, Challans, Quarterly returns, Certificates and Form 26AS.

Set your TAN first

Returns need your business unit's TAN. On the Tax Compliance home page, the TAN card tells you if none is set (This business unit has no TAN yet. TDS / TCS returns need it.) and links to Edit in business unit. If you are not an admin, the card says your admin sets the TAN on the business unit.

Liability — what you owe

Pick the Tax year (it opens on the current one) and the Quarter (Whole year or Quarter 1 to 4). Summary cards show:

CardMeaning
WithheldWhat you withheld, after reversals
DepositedWhat challans have paid
In approvalDeposits waiting for approval
Still to depositWhat remains open
InterestOn late deposits and open amounts

The table lists each Section and Month with Withheld, Deposited, Open, Due date, Status and Interest. Status reads Due (or Open when there is no due date), Overdue N days, In approval or Deposited. If you have more than one TAN, a TAN column appears too.

Open a row (the arrow at its start) to see each deduction: the Document (linked), Withheld on, amounts, Days late and Interest. When the period has no rows at all, the whole tab shows No TDS was withheld in this period. (or No TCS…) instead of a table.

Fix what needs attention. A badge N to fix appears on rows with a problem. Inside, a deduction can show:

  • Over-allocated — a challan pays more than the deduction still owes, usually after a debit or credit note. Click Release excess with the amount shown, so it stays available for other deductions.
  • No longer in the books — a challan pays a deduction whose document was deleted, or whose section or party changed. Edit the challan and move the amount to the current deduction.

Below the table you may also see Challans that paid too little interest (interest due, paid, and short by), and an expandable Quarterly statements due list with the form, quarter, due date, tax in statement, late fee to date and status (Not filed yet or Overdue N days · not filed).

Challans — what you deposited

Filter by Deposited from and Deposited to (it opens on the current tax year). The table shows Number, Deposited on, CIN, Paid from, Tax, Interest, Total and Status. Open a row to see which deductions it paid.

A challan that is part of a filed return shows In a filed return and can no longer be changed or deleted: File a correction return instead.

Record a challan

  1. Click Record a challan.
  2. Under Challan ITNS 281, enter the Deposit date, choose Paid from (a bank or cash account), the BSR code (7 digits, from the bank's counterfoil) and the Challan serial no. (5 digits). The Minor head and Major head are optional (Not stated by default). The CIN is worked out when you save.
  3. Under Deductions it pays, set the Withheld from and to dates and, if you like, a section (All sections). Tick each deduction this challan deposits. Each is filled with what it still owes; lower it for a part payment. A deduction with no party on its document cannot be paid until you fix the document.
  4. Under Amounts, check Tax, Surcharge, Cess, Interest, Fee and Other. Tax follows the deductions you pick until you change it. The interest box shows the interest a late deposit owes, which you can use or overwrite. Add Notes if you wish.
  5. Check Total deposited and click Save challan.

The challan is posted to your books, or sent for approval if your business uses approvals (saved and sent for approval. It posts once approved.). A challan belongs to one business unit; if one challan paid tax for several units, record each unit's part in its own books.

Quarterly returns

Pick the Tax year, then under Quarter to prepare choose the quarter and click Prepare TDS return (or Prepare TCS return). The form follows the law in force for the quarter, and the return covers every business unit sharing your TAN.

The list shows each Return, Quarter, Form (such as Form 26Q or Form 27EQ), Status, Last check, Deductee rows, Tax deducted, Tax deposited and the Token number. Status reads Draft, Validated, File exported or Filed. Last check reads Not validated, N errors, N warnings or No issues.

Click Open on a return to work on it. Summary cards show deductee rows, challans, amount paid, tax deducted and tax deposited, followed by each challan and the deductee rows under it. A note, What this statement does not report, lists anything left out.

ButtonWhat it does
ValidateChecks the return and lists errors and warnings, each with a hint such as Fix it on the party's record or Record the challan that paid it.
Upload CSI fileAdds the Challan Status Inquiry file downloaded from the TIN website, so each challan is checked against it.
Previous statement tokenRecords the previous quarter's token when it was filed outside Bizconnekt.
Export statement fileProduces the text file for the Protean (NSDL) File Validation Utility. Validate it there, then upload it on the TIN or TRACES site.
Download fileDownloads the exported file again.
Mark filedRecords the 15-digit Token number and the Filed on date once the file was uploaded and accepted. Its challans are then locked.
ReopenTakes an exported return back to draft. Use it only if the file was not uploaded to TRACES.
DeleteRemoves a draft or validated return. Nothing in your books changes; you can prepare it again.

On a draft or validated return, a row can be overridden: click Override, enter an Amount paid to report or a Section code in the file, and a reason. This changes the file only, not the document. Leave both blank to clear it.

A return prepared in another business unit of the same TAN can be read but not changed.

Certificates

Keep the TDS / TCS certificates here against the party and quarter. Filter by Tax year, Quarter and Direction (Issued and received, Issued by us, Received from party).

The table shows Certificate no., Form, Direction, Party, Quarter, Amount paid, Tax deducted, Tax deposited, Issued on and a PDF link.

Click Store a certificate and fill in the direction, party, tax year, quarter, Issued on, Certificate number, the deductor's TAN and PAN (leave blank to use your unit's own or the party's profile) and the amounts. Attach the PDF as TRACES produced it if you have it. You can edit or delete a certificate later; deleting only removes your stored copy, the certificate stays valid on TRACES.

Deductee statement. Click Deductee statement, choose a party, tax year and quarter, and you see each deduction with the challans that paid it, the return it was filed in and its certificate. Rows without a deposit show Not deposited.

Form 26AS

Match the credits the government shows for you against the TDS / TCS receivable in your books.

  1. Download Form 26AS from TRACES with Export as Text, or the TDS / TCS CSV from the AIS utility.
  2. Choose the Financial year, pick the file under Form 26AS text file or AIS TDS / TCS CSV, and click Import.
  3. Each imported statement shows Lines, Tied, Set aside and the tied and untied amounts. Click Reconcile to open it.

Each line gets an outcome:

OutcomeMeaning
MatchedThe credit in 26AS agrees with the receivable in your books.
Amount differs26AS and your books disagree. Check the deductor's statement or your documents.
In 26AS, not in booksThe deductor reported it, but your books hold nothing for it, or the deductor is not tied to a party yet.
In books, not in 26ASYour books hold it, but the deductor has not reported it. Follow up with the party.
Not yet claimableReported, but the deductor's deposit is not matched yet.
Set asideLeft out of the reconciliation, with a reason you gave.

View By deductor and section or Lines, search by deductor, TAN or section, and filter by outcome. Tie by TAN ties every line whose deductor TAN is on a party's TDS / TCS profile. You can also tie a line to a party yourself, untie it, or Set aside a line with a reason.

Sections and rates you pick

  • On a party. When you add or edit a customer or supplier, the TDS / TCS profile tab holds a Default TDS section, PAN status, Deductee type, Resident status, the Applicable TDS sections, and any Lower-deduction certificates (section 197) with number, section, rate, amount limit and validity dates. Leave a field blank and it is worked out from the PAN when needed.
  • Tax rates. The TDS and TCS rates available to your documents are kept in Tax Configuration under Configuration → Finance in Bizconnekt Admin, in the Tax Rates table (category badge WITHHOLDING). It is for owners and administrators of India-registered businesses.
