How to View Bill of Materials

Overview​

The BOM view provides comprehensive access to product structures, component details, inventory status, and cost breakdowns. Use list view for quick scanning or detail panels for in-depth analysis of individual BOMs.

Accessing BOM List​

Step 1: Navigate to BOM​

  1. Go to Item Central from sidebar
  2. Click Bill of Material
  3. Click View BOM tab
  4. BOM list displays

Understanding List View​

List Columns​

The BOM list shows:

Item IdUnique BOM identifier (e.g., ITM-007)
Item NameProduct name
Item TypeGoods or Services
Item CategoryClassification (if assigned)
Item SubcategorySub-classification
StatusIn Review, Inactive, Active
Tax RateGST percentage (5%, 18%, etc.)
SaleableYes/No - can be sold
TagsSearchable labels
Product LevelLabor, Component, etc.
Created ByUser who created BOM
Updated ByLast user who modified
Created AtCreation date
Updated AtLast modification date
Brand NameManufacturer/brand

Column Customization​

Customize Visible Columns​

To customize columns:

  1. Click Action menu (≡) in header
  2. Column Settings panel opens on right
  3. Options shown:
    • Drag to reorder - Check/uncheck columns
    • Select All (15 of 15) - toggle all
  4. Individual column toggles:
    • ☑️ Item Id
    • ☑️ Item Name
    • ☑️ Item Type
    • ☑️ Item Category (with sub-option: Item Type)
    • ☑️ Item Subcategory
    • ☑️ Status
    • ☑️ Tax Rate
    • ☑️ Saleable
    • And more...
  5. Click Reset to Default to restore original view
  6. Changes apply immediately

Searching BOMs​

Search options:

  • Text search: "Search in Bill of Material"
  • Searches across: Item ID, Item Name, Tags
  • Real-time filtering as you type

Expanding BOM Details​

Quick View Expansion​

To view BOM details inline:

  1. Click ▶ arrow next to Item ID
  2. Row expands to show detail tabs
  3. Available tabs:
    • Pricing - Cost and sales prices
    • Inventory - Stock levels
    • BOM Items - Component list
    • Cost Break Up - Cost categories
    • Specifications - Technical specs
    • QC Parameters - Quality criteria
    • Approval - Approval status
    • Documents - Attached files

Pricing Tab​

Displays:

  • USB-C Power Adapter: 200 box, 32%

Detail Side Panel​

Accessing Full Details​

To open detail panel:

  1. Click on any BOM row
  2. Side panel slides in from right
  3. Header shows: "Item #[ID]"
  4. Action buttons:
    • Edit - Modify BOM
    • ... - More options
    • - Copy
    • ✕ - Close panel

Overview Section​

Panel displays:

Basic Info:

  • Item Type: Goods
  • Item Id: ITM-007
  • Item Name: Bulk order random products
  • HSN Number: 1064

Image Placeholder:

  • Product image thumbnail
  • Letter avatar if no image (B)

BOM Items Table:

Status Indicators​

BOM status types:

Filtering Options​

List Filtering​

Available filters:

  1. Search by text
  2. Filter by Status
  3. Filter by Item Type
  4. Filter by Product Level
  5. Filter by Brand
  6. Filter by Created Date range

To apply filters:

  • Use search bar for quick text search
  • Click column headers to sort
  • Use Column Settings for custom views

Common Actions​

Action Menu Options​

Click ... (three dots) in Action column for:

Available actions:

  • 👁️ View - Open detail panel
  • ✏️ Edit - Modify BOM
  • Duplicate - Copy to new BOM
  • 🗑️ Delete - Remove BOM (if allowed)
  • 📄 Export - Download as PDF/Excel

Tips for Efficient Viewing​

Best Practices​

Quick Search:

  • Use Item ID for exact match
  • Search by product name for partial matches
  • Use tags for category filtering

Column Organization:

  • Hide rarely used columns
  • Keep Item ID, Name, Status visible always
  • Customize per your role needs

Status Tracking:

  • Filter by "In Review" for pending approvals
  • Monitor "Inactive" BOMs for cleanup
  • Track "Active" for production planning

Troubleshooting​

BOM Not Visible​

Issue: Cannot find specific BOM

Solutions:

  • Clear search filters
  • Check if BOM is Inactive
  • Verify user has view permission
  • Check correct business unit selected

Missing Columns​

Issue: Expected column not showing

Solutions:

  • Open Column Settings
  • Check column is enabled
  • Click "Select All" to show everything
  • Reset to Default if needed

Detail Panel Won't Open​

Issue: Side panel not appearing

Solutions:

  • Refresh browser
  • Check if another panel is open
  • Close and reopen BOM list
  • Clear browser cache
