Packages and Labels
Availability depends on your plan and your role. Packages and labels is switched on per business unit — if it is off, the Package Types and Label Layouts screens say so and ask you to talk to your administrator.
Packages and labels lets you describe what your goods are shipped in and what the labels on those packages say. You set it up once, then reuse it on every item and every shipment.
The parts, and how they fit
| Part | The question it answers | Where you find it |
|---|---|---|
| Package types | What do we ship in — tray, box, carton, pallet — and how big and heavy is each? | Search (Ctrl+K / Cmd+K): Package Types |
| Label layouts | What does a package label print, at what size, with which barcode? | Search (Ctrl+K / Cmd+K): Label Layouts |
| Packing units and levels | How is each item packed — 10 to a tray, 10 trays to a box — and can I enter a line in boxes? | The item form, and the lines of orders, challans, invoices, receipts and bills |
| Package settings | How are these records numbered, and what is our GS1 company prefix? | Admin → Settings → Item Central → Packages |
Opening the screens
Package Types and Label Layouts do not have their own menu entries. To open one:
- Press Ctrl+K (Cmd+K on a Mac) to open search.
- Type
package typesorlabel layoutsand choose View Package Types or View Label Layouts. The same search offers Add Package Type and Add Label Layout.
Once you are on one of them, a tab strip at the top switches between the two. On the item form, the Manage package types link under Packing levels takes you to Package Types.
Your role needs the Package Type and Label Layout permissions: View to see the lists, Edit to add, change or delete.
A simple way to start
- Add the package types you really use — usually a box and a pallet. Sizes and weights are optional, so start with names.
- Keep the standard label to begin with. Bizconnekt prints a standard 4 × 6 inch shipping label until you add a layout of your own.
- Describe how your main items are packed by adding packing levels on the item form.
- If a customer asks for SSCC barcodes, enter your GS1 company prefix in Package settings, then add a layout that prints an SSCC.
