How to Add a Stock Conversion

Overview​

A Stock Conversion takes the parts you hold and turns them into a different, finished item — a kit you've assembled or goods you've repacked. When you save it, Bizconnekt removes the parts from stock, adds the finished item, and carries the cost of the parts across so your stock value stays right.

This guide walks you through building one from start to finish.

Before you start​

  • The finished item must already have a recipe — its Bill of Materials — set up. See the Bill of Materials guide.
  • The parts must be in stock in the store you'll draw them from. If they're short, the conversion can't be completed.
  • You need permission to create inventory movements.

Step-by-Step Guide​

Step 1: Open Stock Conversion​

From the left sidebar, open Stores & Inventory and click Stock Conversion.

On the list page, click + Add Stock Conversion in the top section. A new form opens with a reference number and today's date already filled in.

Step 2: Set the date​

Conversion Date

This is the day the build happened. It defaults to today; change it with the date picker if you're recording something you did earlier. The date decides which period the movement falls into, so keep it accurate.

Step 3: Pick the finished item to build​

Item / BOM to build

Choose the finished item you're making. Because each finished item carries its own recipe, selecting it tells Bizconnekt exactly which parts to consume and in what amounts.

If nothing appears in the list, the item doesn't have a recipe yet — set one up first in the Bill of Materials guide.

Step 4: Set how many to build​

Quantity to produce

Enter how many of the finished item you're building. Bizconnekt scales the recipe to match — build ten kits and it consumes ten times the parts. The list of parts it will use, and how much of each, is shown for you to check before you save.

Step 5: Choose where the parts come from​

Source store

Pick the store that holds the parts you're consuming. This is where the components leave from. Make sure the parts are actually there — if a part is short, you won't be able to complete the build.

Step 6: Choose where the finished goods go​

Destination store

Pick the store the finished item should land in — often your finished-goods store. This is where the newly built stock is added.

You can leave the finished goods unassigned at the site and put them away later; that's a normal state, not an error, and the stock is still fully counted and valued. See the Stores & Inventory overview for how "unassigned" works.

Step 7: Review before saving​

Before you save, check:

  • The finished item is the one you meant to build.
  • The quantity is right — this scales everything.
  • The parts list shown matches what you actually used.
  • The source store has the parts, and the destination store is correct.
  • The date reflects when the build happened.

Step 8: Save​

Click Add to record the conversion.

The moment you save, Bizconnekt:

  • Removes the parts from the source store.
  • Adds the finished item to the destination store.
  • Carries the cost of the parts across onto the finished item, so your stock value stays accurate.

Your stock counts and values update straight away — you don't calculate anything.

Common Situations​

Building a saleable kit Several loose items become one bundle. Pick the kit as the finished item, set how many kits, draw the parts from your parts store, and land the kits in finished goods.

Repacking bulk into smaller units A large pack becomes several small ones (or the reverse). Set the small pack as the finished item and build the number you need — the cost of the bulk stock carries across to the packs.

A quick make-to-stock build You assemble a finished item from its parts with no shop-floor steps to track. A Stock Conversion is the fast path. If your build instead needs to move through stages on the factory floor, that's a full production job — see BOM vs Production Process.

Common Issues & Solutions​

The finished item doesn't appear in the list It has no recipe yet. Set up its Bill of Materials first.

It won't let me complete the build A part is short in the source store. Check the parts are actually in that store, or receive/transfer more in before converting.

The finished stock landed in the wrong place Check the destination store you chose. You can move it with a store move, or leave it unassigned and put it away later.

I picked the wrong quantity Quantity scales the whole recipe. Review the parts list the form shows you before saving — it reflects the number you entered.
