How to Add a Store

Overview​

Adding a store tells Bizconnekt about a real place your goods sit — a Raw Material Store, a Finished Goods Store, a cold room — so stock can be received into it and counted there. You can also add a store group, which is just a folder that organises other stores and holds no goods itself. This guide walks through both.

Prerequisites​

Before adding a store:

  • The site (location) the store belongs to already exists
  • Your role allows you to create stores
  • You've decided whether you're adding a real store (goods sit here) or a group (a folder that organises stores)
  • If nesting, the parent group it will sit under already exists

Step-by-Step Guide​

Step 1: Open the Stores screen​

From the left sidebar, open Stores & Inventory and go to Stores.

On the Stores list, click + Add Store in the top section. The Add Store form opens.

Step 2: Name the store​

Store Name (Required)

  • A clear, everyday name — "Raw Material Store", "Finished Goods", "Rack A".
  • Names only need to be unique within one site, so the same name can exist at two different sites.
  • You don't set a code — Bizconnekt generates one automatically.

Step 3: Choose the site it belongs to​

Location (Required)

  • Pick the site this store lives at — for example "the Pune plant".
  • This matters: the site is where the value of the stock is held, and a store simply records where goods sit inside that site.

Step 4: Choose the kind​

Kind (Required)

Choose what this entry is:

  • Store — an actual place goods sit and are counted. This is the usual choice.
  • Group — a folder that holds no goods. Use it to organise a building or zone, and to nest other groups or stores underneath.

Step 5: Nest it under a group (optional)​

Parent Store (Optional)

  • If this store or group sits inside a larger group — say "Rack A" inside "Building A" — pick that group here.
  • Leave it blank for a store that sits directly at the site with nothing above it.

Step 6: Add an organising label (optional)​

Storage Type (Optional)

  • A label to help you find and group stores: General, Raw Material, Work in Progress, Finished Goods, or Quarantine.
  • It's for tidiness only. Picking "Quarantine" does not stop goods being issued from the store — whether goods are good or damaged is tracked on the goods, not the store.

Step 7: Note the capacity (optional)​

Capacity and Capacity Unit (Optional)

  • Record how much the store can hold and the unit it's measured in (pieces, pallets, square feet).
  • This is informational only — a reference figure for your team. Bizconnekt does not stop you putting more in than the capacity says.

Step 8: Add a description and notes (optional)​

Description (Optional) — a short line on what the store is for.

Notes (Optional) — any extra detail your team should see, such as access instructions or handling rules.

Step 9: Set it active and save​

Active (Optional toggle)

  • Leave Active on so the store appears in your everyday lists and can receive goods.
  • Turn it off later to retire a store you no longer use without deleting it.

Review the details, then click Add to create the store. It appears in your Stores list straight away and is ready to receive goods.

Field Definitions​

Common Issues & Solutions​

Issue: "Store name already exists"

  • Solution: A store with that name already exists at the same site. Rename this one, or check whether the store is already set up. The same name is fine at a different site.

Issue: The site I want isn't in the Location list

  • Solution: The site (location) must be created first. Add it, then come back and add the store.

Issue: I can't pick a parent group

  • Solution: Only entries whose kind is Group can act as a parent. Create the group first, then nest the store under it.

Issue: Goods still went in as "Unassigned" even though I made a store

  • Solution: That's normal. Goods can be received into a site without being placed in a store yet — they sit as Unassigned until someone puts them away. It isn't an error.

Verification Checklist​

After saving, check:

  • The new store appears in the Stores list under the right site
  • Its kind (Store or Group) is correct
  • It's marked Active if you want to use it now
  • It can be selected when receiving goods (for a real store, not a group)
